5 (Surprising) Later Model Classic Cars Tipped to Rise in Value in 2025
According to market forecasts, 2025 is the year of the “younger” classic car.
It’s not only the exotic automotive breeds that are destined to shine. Late-model Peugeots, Toyotas and Subarus are among the cars tipped to command “top dollar” over the next 12 to 18 months.
If you own any of these vehicles, now is not the time to sell.
The better solution is to use the car to unlock liquidity over the short term, and wait for the impending boom. At Pawn My Car, we accept classic and collectible cars as loan collateral.
Here’s a round-up of five of the classics that have made it onto Hagerty UK’s 2025 Bull Market List.
Peugeot 106 S1 Rallye 1991–1996
Small in stature but big on revs, the Peugeot 106 S1 Rallye is the sports version of the French manufacturer’s iconic small city car.
The hot little hatchback may have a low-budget build, but it is one of the rarest Peugeots around. At last count, there were 137 of the original 16,500 models left worldwide. That is the key to the fast-rising prices.
Known for its handling, manoeuvrability and speed, the Rallye was an instant commercial success. Today, low-mileage, mint-condition models are high-desirable collectibles.
Over the next few months, prices are expected to range somewhere between £16,500 and £23,000 – or R377,299 and R525,930 at current conversion rates.
Toyota RAV4 1994–2000
Launched in Japan in 1994, the Toyota RAV4 is the world’s first-ever sports utility vehicle.
It’s a mixture of city slick and traditional 4-wheel grunt, but its compact size and driveability is what turned it into an overnight sensation.
What makes this particular Recreational Active Vehicle (RAV) so unique is the fact that it’s made up of bits and pieces of other models. It was built on the Corolla platform, has a Camry engine and features a drivetrain and suspension from the Celia GT-Four.
In the first year of production, more than 53,000 cars were sold worldwide. Sales increased exponentially over the following years, making the Toyota RAV4 “one of the best-selling SUVs of all time”.
As classic first-generation RAV4 models are increasingly hard to come by, the value range is expected to tip the scales at around £5,100 (R116,690).
Range Rover P38A 1994–2002
With a supersonic Rover V8 engine, plenty of equipment and high-end trims, the Range Rover P38A is the second generation of luxury four-wheel-drive vehicles built by Land Rover, now Jaguar Land Rover (JLR).
It made its debut in 1994 and was an instant hit, so much so that a total of 16,259 cars rolled off the production lines in subsequent years.
Along with Range Rover’s trademark electronically-controlled air suspension, the P38A features four- wheel traction control, both of which enhance its renowned off-road performance.
What makes the Range Rover P38A a Hagerty investment bull for 2025? The current low prices. That, along with the fact that the model is becoming rarer, has the powers-that-be predicting a value range of up to £7,400 (R170,000) in 2025.
Subaru Impreza P1 2000–2001
A limited production of just 100 cars, all featuring signature Sonic Blue paintwork, means only one thing. The Subaru Impreza P1 is destined to take the collectible classic car market by storm.
It’s the first generation of Impreza, exclusively built for use on the wet and slippery British roads. It features a 2L turbocharged engine, iconic aero-dynamic back wing, 17-inch 10-spoke Oz alloy wheels and Prodrive branded livery.
The two-door cult classic has a top speed of 250 kph, hits 0 to 100 kph in just 4.7 seconds and sports advanced handling and grip for all-weather conditions. The P1 is, by all possible metrics, a high-performance car with a re-sale value that’s bounding ever upwards.
According to the Hagerty bunch, a pristine condition Impreza Prodrive 1 rally sport, with all the original trappings, can expect to sell for around £72,500 (R1,65 million) by year’s end.
Alfa Romeo 147 GTA 2002–2005
Equipped with a six-cylinder Busso engine paired with either a six-speed manual transmission or six-speed Selespeed gearbox, the Alfa Romeo 147 GTA is a super-hot hatch with great lines and a roar to match.
It has a top speed of 246 kph and accelerates from 0 to 100 kph in 6.1 seconds. Agility, responsiveness and stunning good looks are among a host of attributes of this classic Italian hatch.
The Gran Turismo Alleggerita is catching the eye of a younger generation of classic car collectors. – and for good reason. It delivers a driving experience like no other, at an affordable price.
The average asking price for a good condition Alfa Romeo 147 GTA is around £13,000 (R297,000), but that is expected to soar to £20,500 (R468,000) in the coming months.
